In 1999, a small group of friends with a passion for medieval history,
decided to form themselves into a medieval interpretation group. Our normal time
period spans the time of the Third Crusade, a holy war, which took place between
the years of 1189 and 1192. The time of King Richard I ( The Lionhearted ),
Prince John and if you like folk law and legend, Robin Hood. These were times of
unrest in England. Richard had left for the Holy Lands and his brother John had
taken over England for his own purposes. However, life must go on and that is
just what you will see at one of our events.
Life - but
certainly not as you know it today.
In our encampment you may find knights, cooks,
soldiers, yeomen, bowyers, fletchers, armourers, spinners, weavers, craftsmen
and women and on the odd occasion even a crone to offer you relief from your
ailments.
Would
you like to be rich ?
Being a noble in early medieval times certainly
had its benefits, especially if you were a Norman nobleman or woman. You were
empowered to make decisions about the lives of the poor - and sometimes their
deaths !
YOU WERE THE LAW !!
Would
you like to be poor ?
Over taxed, underpaid and overworked were only
some of the things the poor of England had to put up with in medieval times.
Oppression, depravation and starvation were, some say, daily obstacles to be
conquered.
LIFE
WAS INDEED HARD !!
