We depict life
in a medieval encampment, on an interpretation basis. So, as you arrive at the
camp you can expect to see the cooks preparing a meal, archers practising their
skills, knights or men-at-arms practising fighting with a range of period
weapons.
You might also see craft demonstrations including
the construction of chain armour, spinning or perhaps clothing manufacture. If
cooking is your interest, our cooks will nearly always be found in the kitchen
area of the camp preparing various foods to satisfy hungry mouths.
Whilst we do not actually hunt our food we do try
to use ingredients that would have been available at the time. Any of our cooks
will be only too happy to explain the exact procedure in preparing the dish of
the day. Recipes are quite simple but delicious with the smells of hot food
adding to the atmosphere of the camp. Recipe sheets are available on request.

The main thing to remember if you intend visiting
or inviting Helios to your event is that we are NOT a living history group who
perform mainly for themselves and ignore the public. We are a group of
enthusiasts who enjoy medieval history and more importantly we enjoy sharing our
knowledge and interests with other people. All of our members will spend time
talking to you about this fascinating period from Britain's history.
We always encourage the public to join in with
the event as much as possible by employing a 'hands on' approach to history. The
hundreds of items we normally display are there to be talked about, picked up
and handled. You do not just imagine how heavy a shirt of mail is but pick it up
and experience that awesome weight.
Then you will appreciate exactly what it is like
fighting in it as you watch the knights displaying their skill-at-arms during
the event..
